Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on the depictions of women in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit website that explores representations of women within popular media narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working with issues that relate to the targeted harassment women and other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. In addition to being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. She was a young woman determined to make a series of web videos to examine the gender roles in games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. The attack did be a deterrent, but it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards for her numerous notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency, an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in media narratives.
